There is significant leverage through using the power of avatars to build important social and emotional learning, specifically self-reflection. What is great about this tool is that users can share the avatars they create with their friends using emails, print them out or save them to their desktop.Īvatars are a fantastic teaching tool to implement into classroom learning. After students finish their works of art, each adaptation is given its animalistic attribution, a brief fact sheet and a link to the New York Zoos and Aquarium to explore more ("BuiLD YouR WiLD SeLF", 2007). Students can also select the "Go Random" button, which gives students a chance to mix up their portraits. Each body part is labelled with the name of the animal it comes from, and there are even sound effects to let you hear what the animal sounds like.

Built for New York's Bronx Zoo, visitors of all ages can create their own human-animal hybrid, building first the normal human hair, eyes, mouth, skin tone and clothing (each with nearly a dozen options), then selecting the ‘wild’ options, such as horns, wings, tails and ears ("BuiLD YouR WiLD SeLF", 2007). ' Build Your Wild Self' is an avatar creation web-based tool which invites students to create a self-portrait by mixing human and animal body parts.
